A LOOK IN THE MIRROR

What is Self Awareness?

Self Awareness is the capacity for an individual to consciously know and understand one's own character, feelings, motives, and desires

Be mindful there is a difference between Self Esteem and Self Awareness.

While self awareness is having a conscious understanding of your own character, self esteem is more like judgement of  your own character.

Self esteem is formed by judging your own character, feelings and standards against a perceived or subconscious standard that has been set. Your esteem will go up or down based on if you meet these subconscious standards.

This is when Self evaluation comes into play. When self evaluating you consciously observe your thoughts, patterns or behaviors and determine if these are conducive to the way you want to live your best life. This conscious comparison is referred to as comparing against our standards of correctness. (aka You know betta than that!)

Have you ever heard this phrase?

" IF YOU KNEW BETTER, YOU WOULD DO BETTER"

Have you ever cheated on a diet? Missed out on opportunity due to procrastination? Called out of work when you knew you needed that money? and to keep it real...let a man talk you into sleeping with him after you told yourself (and your girls!) you wouldn't? Think about the internal feeling you get at the exact moment you know better, but you still do the wrong thing. You may even subconsciously try and make an excuse for going against the grain, but you are totally aware that you are better than the choice you made.

This is self awareness!

When you are aware of what you need to do, but also conscious that your are doing the exact opposite, or that you are on track/ growing.  Self esteem is gauged on how you end up evaluating yourself  based on those conscious decisions or actions, as well as the outcome of those actions.

AFTER YOUR READ THIS :

  1. Take time to self evaluate,
  2. Ask yourself if your actions and behaviors line up with your goals and the vision you have as the best version you see of yourself.
  3. Do you consider yourself to have a low or high level of self awareness and self esteem?
  4. Are you aware of any habits or relationships that may alter your self esteem.
  5. Are you aware of any fears that may alter your self esteem.
